Plot of Inji Iduppuazhagi
Story starts with Sweety (Anushka) being overweight hence unable to get hitched. Her mother (Urvashi) can’t wait to get Sweety married off but every mapley that comes to see her rejects her because she’s fat. Sweety is nonchalant at all the rejections but admires Abhi (Arya) who comes to see her for marriage. For some reason, Sweety rejects Abhi and they become good friends along the way. Anushka secretly likes Arya and goes jogging in the park just to meet him.
Along comes Simran (Chauhan) in between Sweety and Abhi and Sweety hates her to the core and shows her odium sarcastically. Abhi and Simran couple up much to Sweety’s dejection. Meanwhile an NRI from UK sees Sweety’s picture in Indian matrimony and shows interest in marrying her. The catch is, Sweety’s younger brother posted a Photoshopped photo of Sweety which shows her as slim.
Desperate to get Sweety slimmed down by the time the NRI mapillai comes to see her, Urvashi makes Sweety join Size 0 clinic, owned by Prakash Raj which uses dubious methods to make people lose weight quickly. Anushka’s friend who also went to Size 0 clinic suddenly falls very ill. Doctors said that she had fell ill due to the slimming concoctions she’s been ingesting. How Sweety saves her friend, learns that there is no ‘instant’ way to lose weight and how she and Abhi end up together makes the rest of the story – Believe in Happy Endings.
Inji Iduppazhagi, a simple story
The story line of Inji Iduppazhagi is pretty much predictable. I don’t have much flak for the movie and neither Inji Iduppazhagi is great. It’s surreal actually – a girl as beautiful as Anushka being rejected coz she’s fat. I know machas who love curvaceous women. Maybe they did it for the movie’s sake and know that Anushka is the only actress that can pull off such a weighty role. I like Anushka saying that if women start to be as selective as men in finding a bridegroom, most guys won’t get married and become ascetics. That quote holds a lot of truth.
Inji Iduppazhagi rating by me, 3/5. Watch it in theaters folks.
