The song is mediocre and one does not gel with it at the first listen. It somehow lacks the magic touch that captures attention and rhythmic enchantment. Quite garden variety and there’s a considerable dearth of specialty. Perhaps for some it will grow into them as the listening transcends counts.
The official music video tried very hard to mimic a Tamil movie and ended up being a hodge podge of one, from Nayagan, roundabout to Sura, U turn to Maryaan and stop at Baasha. The title, Anbaley Serntha Kootam itself is derived from Baasha. The glorification of alcoholism and gangsterism leaves a bitter taste in a time where our Indian community is trying to escape from the clutches of both. Other scenes really don’t have a touch with Malaysian Indian ethos at all.
Getting stoned and giving tipsy quotes is shown as something that deserves applaud. The bling and clothes donned by the sea farer rowdies dealing with smuggling, crime and contraband reminds one of Maari.
The role of Shamini, the child and the other lady Saroja is unclear. Yet, their cold blooded murder did make me cringe – no lack of violence right there. Merciless, in cold blood and reptilian.
The child surviving into adulthood and the ensuing quote was good. Crime never pays and those who resort to a life of crime can never live peacefully and neither happily. Though it has a message to our community, Kathi eduthavan kathiyala thaan saavan, so kathiye thithathei bhoothiye thithithe..
