Despite presenting valid, researched wise proven points that no matter how much a lady covers up, she would still be subjected to sexual harassment, many Indian men still incriminate that it is the dressing sense of Indian ladies is a major cause factor for sexual harassment and rape.
Time and again some Indian men here insist that Indian women who dress as they like are asking for it so it is not wrong for Indian guys to call such girls thevudiya, vandi, bitch, slut, prostitute etc and have a repository of scantily clad Indian women in Facebook pages and let guys solicit the phone numbers of the girls featured there. They also claim that men don’t expose body the way ladies do. Really? I’ve seen plenty of men wearing Chinese singlet, boxers, lungi tied up till the thigh and jeans halfway down their butts. And, in English and Indian movies, men go all out to strut their booty as much as women do. Ever heard of WWE, male models, John Abraham, Brock Hum, Mr World and body building competitions? Why do men go gaga over acquiring 6 packs? To hide them under the pile of Panchali’s sari?
The evolution of dressing
Speaking of the original reason why humans don’t roam naked like animals, early men wore clothes to protect themselves from the elements, as a result of evolutionary ape human bodily hair loss. Modesty, fashion and cultural dressing came much, much later.
Dressing nowadays is more than just covering your body; it’s about making a fashion statement so skimpy clothes or body fitting clothes worn by both men and women is a matter of making a fashion statement as well as the fulfilling of the element of self satisfaction besides having a profession in the entertainment, fashion, modelling and body fitness industry. Women expose their body for the same reason males expose their body – to seek attention but not attract unwanted attraction. It would be equally uncomfortable and traumatising for a male to be harassed sexually by a bunch of females. Humans are social creatures that crave for attention and that’s gender blind. Men want to get 6 packs and flaunt it for the same reason women get washboard abs. To show their hard work off.
Dressing should be suiting to place and activities done. Swimming suit is to be worn at the swimming pool. If you cannot stand the sight of Indian women wearing swimsuits, don’t go to public swimming pools. Do you think Pandalela Rinong should be dressed in baju kurung when she takes part in the Olympic Games and Mary Kom wear sari when she boxes? Well, for Rio 2016 let’s ask Malaysian diving team to wear Bo Peep’s dress when diving. We’ll win the gold medal for sure.
Cultural dressing – get it right
When asked why is it when Chinese women here wear hot shorts no Indian guys dare to comment negatively on them but the moment an Indian girl wears shorts that are just above the knees then everyone have a field day condemning her, many ignoramuses say that it’s Chinese culture to wear revealing clothes (I hope Emperor Shih Huang Ti rises from his tomb to knock some Chinese history into these knuckleheads.) And, many such Indian women dressing police say that they don’t have the right to criticize the dressing of Chinese women . Truth is not that. If they dare to stare or make a pass at a Chinese lady, siap la kena terajang. Berani dekat fellow Indians sahaja. If you go preach modest dressing to the Chinese, they will tell you to mind your own business. That’s why they are where they are, by minding their own business unlike Indians who love to jaga tepi kain perempuan India. The Chinese believe in individual freedom and don’t waste time by becoming like the Indian dressing police. Indians pulak asyik melalak, Indian culture is going to the dogs because Indian women are obsessed with wearing tiny dresses. The world has globalized so globalized thoughts have become a necessity and the Chinese know that. But, their culture is never forgotten.
Most Indian men claim that Indian cultural dressing for women is to cover up. By wearing attires that suggest ‘little is more’ Indian girls are spoiling Indian culture. Well, this is a self conjured ideal to suit their weakness around scantily clad Indian women because ancient Indian women wore saris that were very revealing indeed.
If you go to India, you’ll see idols of topless women and women wearing very little cloth in temples – ancient Indian women wore very little cloth – my great-great-grandma never wore sari blouse. In those days, women dressed like that for a reason – it was for men to control their lust and it was a golden age for the Bharat. It was also due to the weather in the sub continent. When the British invaded India, they brought Victorian style dressing with them and urged their colony to cover up as they did. The Britishers even dismissed the existence of Khajuraho temples, citing it debauched. These dressing polices gotta broaden their history knowledge before saying it is Indian cultured dressing for women closely resemble the burqa.
This is not to say Indian women should wear revealing clothes – it’s a matter of individual choice. Change is the only constant and if you don’t respect and acknowledge the change of individual rights, it will walk over you. You have the right to tell your sister what not to wear but not to every woman walking on the street. It is not sexy dressing on the woman’s part – it’s the lack of mental celibacy and self control on your part. It is impractical too so might as well develop ourselves in aspects that matter like education, economy and political milieu. That will take us forward, not this debate on Indian women spoiling Indian culture by wearing skimpy dresses which is fundamentally flawed as I had evidenced above.
Definition of modest, appropriate dressing
When asked what’s the dress code for women that’s suitable for all cultures and countries, I got the answer from guys as, “Not revealing too much.” Well, how much is too much? Foremost, modesty, dignity and appropriate dressing are very, very subjective and differ from place to place. If I wear bikini at beaches in Malaysia I’ll be ogled at. If I wear shorts and tee at beaches of California I’ll get laughed at. In Iran, women revealing eyes is considered immodest and sexually appealing. In some cultures showing hair is inappropriate. In Mauritania, the ankles and arms of women are considered sexually arousing. Even though women in Afghanistan cover themselves head to toe, sexual harassment and rape is rampant there so how can one define appropriate dressing that will prevent sexual harassment and rape the world over? Now do you accept that it is an insurmountable task? This is also so disgusting, is it not?
Women’s body parts being said to be sexually stimulating from ankles, toes, hands, face and eyes. It’s like butchering us alive. We are more than mere body parts. We have brains and we use it too!
In Indian movies item songs, women are literally butchered by the camera – the zooming at women’s ass, midriff, cleavage and waist. Even though Shakira jiggles her hips, the camera does not zoom at her body parts, neither do MTV music videos of Pussy Cat Dolls for example. They show women as humans and not mere body parts. Who do you think demand item songs like Chikni Chameli and Shila ki Jawani? Women? If the you know who stop demanding, the supply will stop. Dare ? Can vouch ? Those who say Indian actresses allow themselves to be objectified for money should watch the Dirty Picture which outlines how a woman is coerced into becoming a sex symbol. It will answer the question on ‘women wanting to treat their bodies as sex objects.’ And just for the record, most tailors in the Indian cinema industry are men. The directors are men, editors are men, the cinematographers are men but of course it’s the women’s fault.
It is impossible for a woman to dress so that male lust would not be incurred. Cover too much and the male mind would imagine what’s underneath all the cloth. Reveal too much and his lust level would remain the same as when he sees a fully covered woman. It’s all in the mind. To escape blame, the man blames it on the woman’s dressing. I’ve been through so much sexual harassment in my life even when I was in tee shirt, track pants and sneakers as well as school uniform. I believe my dressing then is not sexually appealing or inviting yet I was subjected to lewd comments and groped in crowded buses.
Telling women to cover up as to not sexually arouse men is counter productive. When a man is constantly exposed to scantily clad women, his sexual urge control augments as opposed to men who are not exposed to such scantily dressed women. That’s why there are so many rape cases in cultures which instruct girls to cover up. There are tribal women who are topless and there are 0 rapes within the community. Societies that urge women to cover up to prevent sexual harassment often have the males within the community perceiving breastfeeding women as sexually arousing. In societies where the males are constantly exposed to scantily clad women, rape cases are low to non existent.
In Sweden, prostitution is legal but seeking sex service is illegal. Prostitutes enjoy protection from the Swede police and public and now there is 0 prostitution in Sweden although it’s legal. This shows that no woman would choose to become a prostitute. In Swede parliament, 62% of parliamentary members are women. The women there wear whatever they want and men don’t bother them. They look at the feminine beauty before them, acknowledge it then mind their own business instead of clamouring the dressing of women corrupt their minds. Now,that’s a real country and real men. No wonder they are on top when it comes to human rights (yes, dressing up as you like is a human right) and women empowerment. Instead of empowering women like that you are talking about what Indian women should and should not wear and I am made to elucidate you on such trivialities. In an age where women are leading nations, Margaret Tatcher, Julia Gillard, Benazir Bhutto, Indira Gandhi, etc, you are talking about women wearing too little cloth. Have some shame.
Quote from The Dirty Picture:
“To make men saints women are made devils.”
So much truth encapsulation in one sentence. Want to blame the dressing of Indian women some more for your perversion?
