India is indeed the underdog which rose to the occasion with her inimitable accomplishment in space exploration, making her mark of humanity’s greatest endeavour by successfully launching Mangalyaan into Martian Orbit in the first attempt itself. India is the first country in the world to do so.
India, although plagued by poverty and other social problems which afflicts millions in the nation is now in the league of USA and Russia and even surpassed both countries by this latest development.
The genius behind this unprecedented feat that silenced all the naysayers is Indian Space Research Organization, acronym, ISRO. Definitely, the eyes of the world is on India now but this time, it’s for all the right reasons. Our Machas and Meenachis too should idolize the genius behind this Mars Mission of India’s rather than idolizing cinema actors.
This is as real as a Bollywood/Kollywood movie script, can get. It’s fiction made a fact by a dedicated bunch of scientists.
One more reason that makes this event special is, the scientists involved are significantly women. This is women empowerment at its finest in a nation where female infanticide, rape and dowry killings happen.
What’s even more mindblowing is, India achieved this by using a fraction of the money used to produce the film Gravity. I don’t need to mention about other countries’ spending in order to reach Mars.
India and her many struggles
To those “ultra kiasus” who downplay India’s Mangalyaan mission to Mars, and saying it ain’t a big deal, consider this:
Have you been to India? When was the last time? Do you know what daily struggle with poverty looks like?
This is a country with more than 600 million people in Below Poverty Line, found it important enough to have a space program , launch a fast tracked mission to Mars, and freaking nailed it , on first attempt.
This mission is an example of having some glimmer of a brighter future for humanity someday, that even in a dire situation we are capable of achieving larger than life things, which seem impossible at first, something palpable that our youth can look up too.
ISRO’s past failures aside- In the last 15 years, 7 out of 16 missions to Mars (from around the world) , did not make it. This includes 3 NASA orbiters, and all the other missions tried by Japan, USA, Russia and China, in 2011. Big dreams do come true, provided immense effort applied.
It is a big deal.
India says, “Inimel ellam ipdi than, aah!
Realize that the United States, and the rest of the world, placed tech sanctions on India, after it went ahead with its nuclear weapons testing in the 60’s. India, shut in the dark, (with some help from the Soviet Union) has largely built its indigenous tech up from scratch the last 40 years. And, space technology isn’t open source and on Wikipedia. India earned this, old school.
For a developing 3rd world nation with still so many problems compared to other similar countries, it is amazing that this country which was a colony of the British Empire, quite unsure about its own independence, so much division and communal odium – reached freaking Mars and has put a contributory stamp on humanity’s endeavor of space exploration.
It is indeed amazing and a stupendous feat that successfully underplayed all problems in India as the nation stands as one in pride. This may actually pave the way to a socially, politically better India. This success has put India standing in the eyes of the world. An unlikely country made the unlikely likely.
India says, “Naangge vere maari bro!”
India, although strayed a wee bit with the TOI and Deepika’s Padukone’s fiasco, is now leading in space exploration. This tells us that although dabbling in trivial controversies, India still has her priorities right – while some TOI reporters were zooming at Deepika Padukone’s cleavage, a bunch of Indian scientists have been zooming on PLANET MARS and launched their orbiter like a boss.
India had done something defying and beyond great against all the odds affecting her. This is history in the making. If only Malaysians of Indian descent take it as inspiration and work themselves up, it would be good and serve the purpose of this piece. Don’t just bask in the glory – believe that accomplishments are possible in adversities and work for it in whatever field you choose and have a burning desire in. When I say burning desire, I don’t mean the burning desire to become a gangster.
Great things never come out of comfort zones.
Goyalle, inimel enthe manggus madayan nambele ‘BALIK INDIA!’ nu solluvan..??!!
