Today, I am addressing ‘the plague that hijacks feminism’ to further vested interests. This woman, Vishaka Hari speaks about how Hinduism is all about feminism, dating back to the Vedic period, also dubbed as “Vedic Feminism.” Watch this video of Vishaka Hari and then go through my reply to her.
Aah, yes, let me destroy you today Ma’am. Yes, apparently only when you have a problem that you need a solution. So, you don’t see Indian women, not let complete education and going for job, pressured to marry, to bear children, to be a slave at home, being made to eat last, after all the men had their fill, female infanticide and female foeticide, child marriage, stopped from going to school after getting periods, acid attacks, burnt in broad daylight as not a problem? They are problems needing solutions. Vishaka Hari, you need to get out of your comfort casteist cocoon and see the world darling – the sexual exploitation of Dalit women and the devadasi system that have roots in Hinduism? Can’t you hear their pleas? Apparently, tone deafness is prevailing. Oh darling, so did Indian women have voting rights when western women were doing the Suffragette movement? Millions of women were killed in the west? Where did you get that idea from gurl? Women were burnt in the west? They were brutalised, imprisoned and force-fed during the suffragette movement, yes – that’s why you, a woman, got to vote in the Indian 2019 elections. Hinduism didn’t give voting rights for women, let’s be very clear on that. By your speech that’s steeped in ignorance, I wonder if Raja Ram Mohan Roy is a fictional character and sati never happened in India?

This man’s work to demolish sati and create equality for women from religious clutches is completely dismissed by Vishaka Hari
Okay, I’ll come to the ‘women are only used as objects in the west’ point later. Oh, it’s supposed to be a privilege to be on Brahma’s tongue, Narayanan’s bosom and Shivan’s other half? There is still a need for women’s liberation because we want to be individuals with our own abilities flourishing, standing shoulder to shoulder with men and improving humanity. I suppose you never heard of the word ‘potte’ to insult men because, in our culture, there is no higher insult for a man than to be female. So, what’s the point of being on Brahma’s tongue, Narayanan’s bosom and Shiv’s other half when Kuberan was misogynistic, Manu Smriti’s dictation on how to be a good woman and even more so with men of flesh and blood thinking the ultimate insult for them is, “poo mudichi, oru selaiya kattu, ini nee veshtiye kattikalama?” What is the status of widows, single women and divorced women?? What is the perception of women who remarry as opposed to men who remarry? Can a widow perform auspicious rituals? Heard of widows of Vrindavan? Come, dear Vishaka Hari, wake up from your religious induced coma. And please, don’t liken women to goddesses and divinity – that only provides the opportunity to say that women can get ‘spoiled’ and become ‘impure’ thus controlled and suppressed as to not get spoiled and impure as it sets standards for women to continue to pander to sexist religious establishments. Women are human beings with desires and flaws just like men. Quit hijacking feminism and denouncing western feminism. You have no basis at all to do that.
No, feminism is what we need, not something worst taken from the west, precisely to awaken ignoramuses such as yourself. Indians sure know to glorify themselves when there is much left to desire. Will you stop being anecdotal of the lords having their wives’ names in front of theirs? It doesn’t matter whose name is behind or in front, it’s how people are treated that matters. Indian women still are not free to live, free to love and if things don’t work out, free to break away. What’s the point of Sitaram, Lakshminarayanan, and Gowrishankar when real life women are battered, raped, discriminated, oppressed, not let to live their life the way they want it, “We revere women, putting their names first.” Then we call women filthy when they menstruate. So much hypocrisy from you Vishaka Hari. Look, we don’t want ‘ladies first’. We want ‘ladies are humans and should live their life the way they want and break molds. Ladies are ready to toil, shed sweat, tears, and blood if only they are given leeway to and not told that they are only worth when they are married to a man.
Respect women’s wishes and wants, not their divinity and dignity. It requires derision and ridicule when one can shit from their mouth like you dear Vishaka Hari
Now for the icing on the cake. You say that women are only perceived as objects in popular culture and then you go on to objectify women as gold and men as stainless steel. Fukc. No, women ain’t gold, they are fucking human beings entitled to human rights. They have been deceiving women all these centuries, you’re gold, you’re divine, so stay locked up – it’s because we revere you that you have fewer rights than men – ithukku peru tha ice vechi aapu vekkiruthu. Ippadi usupethi, usupethi pombalaingala yugam yugama adimaigala vechirunthanga. If a woman dares to go out and something befalls her, she is blamed and shamed. Because of women like you Vishaka Hari, women, who are now slowly coming out and making their mark in the world will be made to go back into the kitchen and stay there.
Also, you contradict yourself Vishaka Hari – first you said that in our culture, women have equal rights as men then you say women are gold, revered, hence locked up and given fewer rights than men.
Vishaka Hari, you might want to get down from your high horse and read the brutality women are subjected to on a daily basis. Even when a funnel that enables women to pee standing up due to the lack of clean public toilets gets people enraged and question, “How can women pee standing up?” No one says let’s keep our public toilets clean so that no one needs to hold the urge to go. You sound exactly like the former Vishaka Hari. Your caste privilege is preventing you from being a human.
